11月01日【搭船啟航】

Arose early and after breakfast went out into the city for a short walk: Enjoyed it very much, for the morning was lovely and every-thing seemed so charming. Returned to "American Exchange" and packed my baggage. At 10 A.M. went on board the S.S. "America". Went into my berth-room and turned over to Psalm 46. Then asked God to guide and keep me all the way. A Mr. Gunn with whom I stayed a few days called on me, so too Mr. Condit and Mr. Loomis- The signal being given, guns fired, our Ship Slowly moved out to sea. There were many 'good"byes', waving of handkerchiefs etc. but I remained below, for from that large crowd ashore, not one familiar face was to be seen, not one turning his eyes on this poor self. A continent lay between me and my native land. Why sh'd I go on deck? Rather shut my door, and now O God my only hope and strength keep me, and bring me safely to China.

早起，早餐之後外出到市內散步，心理感到非常的愉悅。因為這裡的清晨非常可愛，一切看起來是那麼迷人。回到「美國運通」將行李打包，在十點來到美利堅號，進入我的艙房。翻開閱讀聖經詩篇46篇。禱求上帝一路引領平安。一位幾天前認識的谷馬先生來拜訪我，除外還有康迪克先生和盧米司先生也來。信號響起，我所搭乘的船緩緩的駛向外海，在碼頭上有許多送行的人揮舞著手帕送別。但是我留在船內，唉！在碼頭上擁擠的群眾當中沒有一個臉孔是我所熟識的。當然也不會有人注意的這個可憐的我。如今我與故鄉間相隔遙遠，我有必要到甲板上去嗎？寧可關上房門。如今，上帝啊！你是我的盼望與力量，求你保守我，平安帶領我到達中國。

11月26日Sun【船抵橫濱】

at 3 P.M. after sighting Fusiyama's snow clad top nearly all day came into Yokohama --Remained on board . Nearly all the Passengers went ashore . Went into my berth and from the bottom of this poor heart thanked God for caring me so far. Pleaded to guide

整日看見富士山頂被白雪覆蓋的山頂。在下午3點進入橫檳港。差不多所有的乘客都下船，我留在船上，進入艙房禱告，由我這可憐的心靈最深處感謝上帝直到目前的照顧。並且再次懇求上帝引導。之後，上去坐在甲板上。 下午三點，日本橫濱，感謝上帝保守，引領。

12月04日Mon【經過汕頭】

Very pleasant day, passed by Swatow and saw Scores of Junks out fishing. Boats with sails like butterflies. Looked very pretty all out like a fleet----

12月05日Tue【到達香港】

12月06日Wed【前往廣東】

Remained all night with Dr. Eitel the man who accosted me on the Street yesterday. It seems Dr. Maxwell told him to be on the lookout for me-- At 8 A.M. took steamer for Canton. Very pretty in some places, going up. Many horse- shoe Shaped graves--

12月08日Fri【回到香港】

Left at 9 a.m. and at 3 P.M. arrived in Hong Kong. Went to the German Mission. Saw 40 girls who sang "There is a happy"

早上9點離開在下午三點到達香港。 前往德國的宣教區，見到40位女孩唱「有一件事實在歡喜」

12月09日Sat【離開香港】

Left Hong Kong at 4 P.M. on board the "Rona" Cap. Lemont a Highlander. How Srange! Away out here one's blood boils at meeting a bro. Celt. I suppose it is just human though. good time.

12月10日Sun【停靠汕頭】

Very rough all day. Still enjoyed the time with the Cap.very much. at 2.P.M. cast anchor in the Swatow harbor-- Very soon Dr. Thompson and a Mr. Hobson came on board and dragged me ashore-- (Dr. Alex Thomson, 1869-72)

12月27日Wed【回到汕頭】

In the morning passed through the town crowds after us--Beautiful country all around-- Had dinner in the Mission house-- Took a boat up the river and arrived at Swatow 5 P.M. Called on Miss. then Smith escorted me to the "Quang-tung." for Amoy--

12月28日Thu【進入廈門】

At 8 A.M. Came into Amoy harbor and at 11. went on board a Schooner "Kin-lin" bound for Formosa. set sail about dark.

在早上8點進入廈門港。在11點搭上金陵號雙桅帆船前往台灣。天黑之後開船。

12月29日Fri【橫渡臺海】

O heavens what a night ! Great God can I survive this. such pitches ! Why she nearly turned upside down. I was going to note inside out too. Cap. gave me his own room ! Old boots! old pipes ! old socks! old coats! etc. !!!! with horrid smell of

噢！我的天，什麼樣的夜晚。全能的上帝啊！我能由這種前後顛簸的景況生還嗎？整艘船幾乎翻倒過來，而我也差點摔出去。船長將他的房間借給我！臭靴子！臭煙管！臭襪子！臭外套！！！！ 煙草可怕的味道。所有的東西隨著船前後的顛簸而滾來滾去。一隻牛頭犬躺在門邊。 好吧！?
